Where have I heard that Transformers theme before?

Published by cardboardbox at 4:37 pm under Music, Soundtracks, movies Edit This

Hans Zimmer is a god.

Now that we have formalities out of the way I can get on to what I need to say. While watching Transformers a while back I felt the score was instantly familiar in a Zimmerish sort of way and it sounded like The Contender. Well I looked up both on imdb.com and what do you know, some guy named Steve Jablonsky did both Transformers and The Contender. Well, Zimmer had a hand in The Contender too so I’m not 100% sure Jablonsky composed the theme. Jablonsky studied under Zimmer along with some other composers like Harry Gregson-Williams (Chronicles of Narnia, the Shreks, Metal Gear Solid 2, 3, 4) and Klaus Badelt (Pirates of the Carribbean - although its a matter of debate if he or Zimmer led the composing on this one). Maybe its just me but the Transformers theme and The Contender theme sound very, very similar and thats a good thing because they are both very good.

Easter egg - about 1:15 into the Transformers clip, some guy running around says this is “easily 100 times better than Armageddon!” I wonder if this was an intentional joke regarding Michael Bay’s Armageddon.
